Photography

Shoot notes, settings that worked, and gear assessed after using it rather than after buying it.

The series

  1. Photo — The kit — what I own and what it can't do — #photo/gear
  2. Photo — Exposure, plainly — ISO, aperture, shutter, honestly — #photo/basics
  3. Photo — Low light — the R50 has no IBIS, and that decides everything — #photo/lowlight
  4. Photo — Peak sharpness — getting everything the sensor can give — #photo/quality
  5. Photo — Telephoto — reach I don't own yet, and what I'd buy — #photo/tele
  6. Photo — Night sky — stars, the 500 rule, and why it's wrong — #photo/nightsky
  7. Photo — Adding photos to these notes — the workflow, and one privacy trap — #photo/workflow

The short version

One body, one fast prime, no stabiliser in the body. That combination is superb in low light for still subjects and unremarkable for moving ones, and almost every decision below follows from that single fact.
